Image Manager for WordPress 2.1+

Posted on April 11, 2007

Picture_2.pngAs you know I have been searching hign and low for a Desktop Blog Editor for Mac that works half way decent. I recently tried Ecto but was not impressed.

The biggest item that has been missing from all the Blog Editors is the ability to resize images easily within the post. So instead of looking for a desktop client that could do this I looked for an image manager for WordPress.

I found a great one.

The name is quite simple – ImageManager. ImageManger replaces the included imag upload feature that is included with WordPress. It gives you ability to upload and image which creating a thumbnail. It also allows you to resize the thumbnail and apply style to. When you are done manipulaing the image you just click OK an the code is automatically entered into you post.

The above image was added to this post with ease.

Next I am going to look to get the photo border added to my CSS file as you can add classes to the images also.

It looks as though I am back to using the online editor now.

Upgraded to WordPress 2.1

Posted on January 22, 2007

Well I have been refreshing the WordPress Download page all day to see if 2.1 has been released and finally this afternoon it has been – cool.

The first thing that I did was get this site upgraded to this latest stable version and everything seems to be in order.

Oh, and a note to the people who where not using the visual editor before and would now like to check it out – it is not longer under Options > Writing. It is now under Users > the click on edit under your username > Your Profile. You can now enable the visual editor per user – nice.

Anyway, WordPress rocks and 2.1 is a winner. You can download it here.

WordPress 2.1 to Be Released Today

Posted on January 22, 2007

Cool, WordPress 2.1 is scheduled to be released today. I have been testing it out for several months already and have to say that it is the best version of WordPress yet.

I think that the thing that is most significant about this release is that it allows WordPress to be used as a CMS more easily with it’s static front page option. I plan on using it on a fee projects that are coming up.

This site has been limping along on a broken alpha version of 2.1 for some time now so I will be happy to be able to fix some things around here with some stable code.

Lastest WordPress Release – 2.0.5

Posted on October 31, 2006

Well WordPress 2.0.5 has been released with several bug fixes and some security fixes. If you update you really won’t see any noticeable differences other then the plugin on the plugins page are sorted alphabetically now.

I won’t be upgrading (actually downgrading) because I have been using the 2.1 alpha for quite some time now on most of my blogs. It has been running great. I can’t wait for it’s release.

WordPress.com is Slowly Coming Back Up

Posted on October 30, 2006

Still no word about what happened but WordPress.com looks as though it is slowly coming back online although it is running pretty slow.

I can now get into my dashboard and see the front page of my blog.

Hope they fix whatever is causing this soon.

WordPress.com is Down

Posted on October 30, 2006

Wow, I went to post something on one of my WordPress.com blogs and my site did not come up. I thought at first that maybe my site got pulled but then I tried my other site – no dice.

I then tried the just wordpress.com and the same message -

503 Service Unavailable

Whoops!

We just got a “503 error”. Please try refreshing the page and if the error is still there drop us a note and let us know.

This is a very big deal especially after WordPress.com started offering to have domain mapping.

I hope they get it up soon.

WordPress 2.1 New Features

Posted on September 12, 2006

I logged into my wordpress.com blog today (danmasters.wordpress.com) and noticed that the new blog entry page had a cool change to it. It had a “Compose” tab and an “HTML” tab. Clicking on either tab switches you between the rich text editor and the HTML views via Ajax.

I had noticed a while ago that whatever shows up at wordpress.com is what you are going to be seeing in the free download of WordPress. Therefore I downloaded the latest alpha build to confirm it. Sure enough it is there.

Pretty sweet!

I cannot wait until 2.1 is out although there is no release date scheduled right now.

Testing WordPress 2.1 Alpha – Me Likey!

Posted on September 4, 2006

Well I have been testing the alpha version of WordPress 2.1 for a couple of weeks now and I have to say that I really like it.

Notably, it is exactly like the wordpress.com version which includes spell check. The other thing that it includes which I really like is that you can now select a standard page to be the “home page” of your blog and have your “blog” on another page.

This is a really significant step for WordPress in my mind because they have just take the step from just being a blog software to now being a full blown CMS. I have been using WordPress as a CMS for quite some time but only after uploading an array of plug-ins and some theme tweaks. It will be even simpler once 2.1 comes out though as all that functionality is already built in.

The WordPress 2.1 Alpha can be downloaded for free at wordpress.org/download/nightly/. You will have to download the SVN client to do so but it is worth it.

WordPress SunFlower Theme – 500 Downloads in 2 Weeks

Posted on August 18, 2006

Screen Shot of the Custom WordPress Theme - SunflowerSimply Amazing.

The Custom WordPress Theme named Sunflower that I made for my wife’s blog has been downloaded over 500 times since it was released 2 weeks ago.

This theme as you know is a rendition of my Beach House WordPress Theme that has been downloaded over 2000 times in the last 2 months (see my post Over 2000 Downloads of the Beach House WordPress Theme).

Just a reminder I have made the Photoshop file available for download for this theme so that you can customize it yourself.

Thanks to all those who have downloaded and are using this theme!
