Image Manager for WordPress 2.1+
As you know I have been searching hign and low for a Desktop Blog Editor for Mac that works half way decent. I recently tried Ecto but was not impressed.
The biggest item that has been missing from all the Blog Editors is the ability to resize images easily within the post. So instead of looking for a desktop client that could do this I looked for an image manager for WordPress.
I found a great one.
The name is quite simple – ImageManager. ImageManger replaces the included imag upload feature that is included with WordPress. It gives you ability to upload and image which creating a thumbnail. It also allows you to resize the thumbnail and apply style to. When you are done manipulaing the image you just click OK an the code is automatically entered into you post.
The above image was added to this post with ease.
Next I am going to look to get the photo border added to my CSS file as you can add classes to the images also.
It looks as though I am back to using the online editor now.

Importing and Exporting from WordPress – WPexport Plugin
As mentioned in my previous post I had exported from a wordpress.com blog and imported to a self hosted WordPress setup.
The process was really easy and to be honest I was surprised.
In looking around to see if you could do an import/export from 2 standard WordPress installs I found that only the hosted wordpress.com blogs have the export function built in, it is not available as of the 2.03 version of WordPress.
WordPress 2.03 Update Focuses on Performance
I must have been asleep for the last week because an update to WordPress was released and I did not see it until yesterday.
In looking at the release notes it seems that a lot of the changes had to do with performance.
I have installed it here at idano but really did not see any difference. I would attribute that to the fact that I have slimmed done this site already so it is already running pretty quick. I am sure the differences would be seen in high traffic sites.
Already though there have been some complaints with the release and a temporary plug-in to fix the issues so we should be seeing 2.04 real soon.
FAlbum Recent Pictures in Side Bar
I recently got an e-mail requesting how I got the recent photos in my side bar on my The Masters Family blog. This was done with using the FAlbum WordPress Plug-in By Elijah Cornell. I really dig this plug-in and subsequently it is responsible for me having 3 separate Flickr accounts of which 2 are Pro accounts.
Let me start by saying I know why I got the e-mail. This plug-in can be a real bear to get going.
I will start with the basics of of getting the plug-in installed and then move on to the side bar.
Fixing WordPress Performance Issues with WP-Cache Plug-in
I have been having performance issues over at 2 of my other sites – themastersfamily.net and themastershouse.net which are both run with WordPress. Pages were taking up to 30 seconds to load each. I put several calls into the hosting company that I am with but they did not see any issues on their end. It is shared hosting so I suspected that it was a server load issue (which the hosting company would never admit to). Read the rest of this entry »
Formating Fix for the Subscribe to Comments Plug-in
I found a temporary fix for the formatting for the Subscribe to Comments WordPress Plug-in.
I was forced into fixing it because I was trying to implement the plug-in on another web site and the formatting was broken there too.
You need to open the subscribe-to-comments.php file and go to line 36.
Subscribe to Comments WordPress Plug-in
I have added a new plug-in the idano.net web site which I think is really cool.
Now you are able to subscribe to comments on posts. I had seen this on a few other sites and really like it.
Basically, you enter the usual comment info – Name, Email, URL, and comment but now you can check a box at the bottom which will send you updates when another comment is added to the post.
WordPress, Zoundry, and Lightbox 2 – Imaging Bliss
Update 06.01.06 – As cool as this plug-in looks I had to disable it on this web site. The reason for this is that it is dreadfully slow and really impacted the loading of ALL of my pages. Therefore you will not be able to see the LightBox effects on the images below. – Dan
I do not usually get this excited about WordPress Plug-ins, but this one just rocks. It even inspired me to add a new category – WordPress Plug-ins.
The reason that I am excited about this is it does not require additional configuration after you install and it completely works with my blog desktop client – Zoundry.
Most Popular Posts Plug-in
I have added a new plug-in that calculates the most popular post on your blog calculated by visits to the post and comments.
The plug-in is called Popularity Contest by Alex King.
You can now see the popularity of each post under the title and next to the time stamp.
There is also a “Top 5″ most popular posts in the sidebar.
As of right now WordPress Desktop Client Search is still the reigning champion.
