The Browser War Takes a New Turn – IE vs Firefox

Well within the last week both Microsoft and Mozilla has launched the latest versions of their browsers – Internet Explorer 7 and Firefox 2.0.

The differences that I have noticed in both of the new browsers is minimal. Internet Explorer now offers tabbed browsing, some CSS fixes, and some anti-phishing tools. Firefox new offerings are spell check(cool), some RSS upgrades, and it’s own version of anti-phishing tools.

I am using Firefox 2.0 while writing this and Firefox is still my browser of choice. I especially like the inline spell check feature.

The only version of IE 7 that I have tired was the one that was bundled with the Vista Beta 2 release. I have to say that I saw a significate difference in the speed of IE in Vista compared with that of IE 6 in XP. I have not switch to IE 7 at work yet as we still need to develop for 6 and Microsoft does not allow you to run both at the same time (lame).

Anyway, both where big releases with minimal features.

Apogee Pay Per Click Campaign Services

I have mentioned this company before and their SEO services but that is only a small piece of the pie that they offer. They also manage Pay Per click Campaigns too.

The company name is Apogee and they are located right here in Austin, TX (along with me :-) ).

As you know I only reference sites that I would do business with and Apogee is one of those companies. I read their white paper about PPP campaigns and actually learned a thing or two. The main thing that I learned is that the approach marketing campaigns a little different then most companies.

Internet Marketing Podcasts Available from MindComet

I visited another one of MindComet’s site this morning which specifically provides marketing podcast. I listed to one of the podcasts that focused on generating revenue from RSS.

As an avid blogger I was interested as I am always looking for new streams to generate revenue from my sites.

The podcast was pretty informative as it was an interview with the VP of a company named Pheedo. He talked about how RSS is a new way to generate revenue as there are a lot of people who new actually visit your blog because they view your content through their RSS reader.

While this podcast was interesting I would like to see other Podcasts that would help me in placing ads, building traffic, and other avenues of generating money from my sites.

Better Adsense Results with Ontok Highlighter

As I mention in this post – The Adsense Cleansing is Complete – I removed all of the Adsense from the template of my blog because it was ugly and really intrusive. Also I really was not making an money on it.

Well the same day that I removed the Adsense I came across Ontok Highlighter which scans you page the same way that Adsense does but then makes a hyperlink out of any keywords that it finds. Then when some either hovers or clicks the link it opens a layered window (not a pop-up) that displays a couple of Adsense ads and relevant Google search results for the keyword.

I totally like this approach because it is non-intrusive to people and if people are interested in the keyword they will click on it.

Not only does it look better, I get a better click through rate also. I am now making almost double in Adsense then I was before I started using the Ontok Highlighter.

Writely Starts Accepting User Registrations

Writely has finally begun to accept new user registration.

They had stopped accepting registrations shortly after being acquired by Google.

As soon as I heard I signed up because I had heard that you could post to blogs from Writely so I want to try it out.

SEO Glossary – Brush Up on Your Search Engine Marketing Terminology

Recently I was given the opportunity to manage someones Google Adwords Account.

As I was getting more into looking at the different Campaigns and Adgroups I released that I did not know some of the terms that they were referencing.

I started searching and I found this SEO Glossary that was able to help me out.

Not only did I find the terms that I was looking for but saw some others that I did not know existed.

It is a good reference to stay up on your Search Marketing terms.

A Good PHP Tutorial Site

I am starting a new project at work that is requiring me to do some dynamic sites in PHP.

I have not really worked with PHP in the past but have become more and more familiar with it by using WordPress. I have mostly worked with ASP in the past but I cannot use that for this project since I will be utilizing the Web Server on a Stick software (for more info on WOS see my post – WordPress on a Stick for Meeting Notes).

Mindcomet Web Design Interactive Agency

mindcomet_logo.jpgI have across one of the nicest and best laid out Web Design Company web sites that I have seen in a long time – Mindcomet.

They label themselves as an which I think is very appropriate based on the presentation of their web site.

You can tell that they are very professional by the content, layout, and use of different technologies on their site. Their use of flash video on the front page is one of the best implementations that I have seen. It loads quick and is non-intrusive. A lot of design companies are in your face with this type of technology trying to show off – Mindcomet uses it in context.

Trailfire – Have Your Say on Any Web Page

What Trailfire does is gives you a Firefox plug in that allows you to place your comments on any web site. With the plug in installed you are also able to view other people’s comments as well.
